The First Step of Teaching Self-Monitoring and Implementation of The Self & Match System

One simple way to support student’s in-class behavioral success is to prioritize creating and maintaining classroom expectations and then systematically teaching our students the tools needed to self-monitor their behavior(s) to match these expectations using Self & Match.

Self & Match is a systematic self-monitoring system that incorporates an accountability/match component. There are 5 key steps in virtually every Self & Match system.While the five-step process forms the foundation or our system, there are endless ways to individualize Self & Match forms to meet the needs of your target student(s).

One of the most difficult tasks educators face is managing classroom behaviors and implementing effective behavior management systems.  There is nothing wrong with teachers applying positive reinforcement contingencies (such as implementing token boards, marble jars, or using teacher delivered point sheets) to achieve classroom order but it is desirable that students eventually learn to manage their own behavior.
